Festiva Adventure Club members and Atrium owners have already received an email update in regards to the aftermath of Hurricane Irma on the island of St. Maarten/St. Martin, and Atrium owners will be receiving more detailed information in the mail soon. We are fortunate to report that all Atrium employees and guests who were at the property during the storms are safe, but the resort and island itself received damage that will take some time to repair.
The general situation on St. Maarten/St. Martin is quite dire for the foreseeable future. At least 90 percent of the island’s buildings and structures have been severely damaged or destroyed. There is no electricity, drinking water, telephone service or internet. Cell phone service is sporadic and unreliable. The airport is not operating, and the only arrivals for the time being to the island are military and relief efforts.
Knowing that initial recovery from Irma’s impacts will take several months, we have made the decision to cancel all incoming reservations for the remainder of 2017. It is a difficult decision for us to make, but we feel that it is the right thing to do because we know that the island will not be able to support tourism for the remainder of 2017, at least.
Our team at the Atrium is still assessing damage to the property and plans on doing a room-by-room inspection over the next several days so that we can get a clearer picture of how the resort was impacted. Habitable rooms are currently occupied by Atrium employees who have lost their homes as well as Dutch Marines who are on the island for relief efforts. At the corporate level, we are also discussing ways that we can help support those employees and others on the island who lost their homes and their livelihoods.
We will be sending additional information that we may get, as soon as we get it. We thank you for your understanding, and please do not hesitate to contact us. Festiva Adventure Club members should call 866-933-7848 and weeks owners should call 855-411-9335. Our thoughts are with all those who live in the impacted areas in the Caribbean and the U.S., and if you happen to live in any of these areas we hope that you and your loved ones are safe. Again, we appreciate your patience as we work through this, and please keep your thoughts with our staff in St. Maarten as they work through this difficult time.
