Hurricane Irma: An Update on Festiva’s Atrium Resort and Spa in St. Maarten

Festiva Adventure Club members and Atrium owners have already received an email update in regards to the aftermath of Hurricane Irma on the island of St. Maarten/St. Martin, and Atrium owners will be receiving more detailed information in the mail soon. We are fortunate to report that all Atrium employees and guests who were at the property during the storms are safe, but the resort and island itself received damage that will take some time to repair.

The general situation on St. Maarten/St. Martin is quite dire for the foreseeable future. At least 90 percent of the island’s buildings and structures have been severely damaged or destroyed. There is no electricity, drinking water, telephone service or internet. Cell phone service is sporadic and unreliable. The airport is not operating, and the only arrivals for the time being to the island are military and relief efforts.

Knowing that initial recovery from Irma’s impacts will take several months, we have made the decision to cancel all incoming reservations for the remainder of 2017. It is a difficult decision for us to make, but we feel that it is the right thing to do because we know that the island will not be able to support tourism for the remainder of 2017, at least.

Our team at the Atrium is still assessing damage to the property and plans on doing a room-by-room inspection over the next several days so that we can get a clearer picture of how the resort was impacted. Habitable rooms are currently occupied by Atrium employees who have lost their homes as well as Dutch Marines who are on the island for relief efforts. At the corporate level, we are also discussing ways that we can help support those employees and others on the island who lost their homes and their livelihoods.

We will be sending additional information that we may get, as soon as we get it. We thank you for your understanding, and please do not hesitate to contact us. Festiva Adventure Club members should call 866-933-7848 and weeks owners should call 855-411-9335. Our thoughts are with all those who live in the impacted areas in the Caribbean and the U.S., and if you happen to live in any of these areas we hope that you and your loved ones are safe. Again, we appreciate your patience as we work through this, and please keep your thoughts with our staff in St. Maarten as they work through this difficult time.

  1. Hello Pat, The release states that all Atrium owners have received an email regarding the situation in St. Maarten and will receive another soon. I have not received any notification or updates by email.

Please add me to the distribution list. Our sincere hope for a speedy recovery goes out to all the unfortunate people of the island and wish them the best.

    1. Hi Mr. Harmon; our records show that you did receive the email we sent to all Atrium owners on Friday, 9/8, however the email wasn’t opened so it may have filtered into your Spam or Junk email box. 4. Can you please pass on to the powers that be to notify RCI about the status of the resort? We don’t own here at this beloved resort but exchange into with two upcoming reservations. RCI tells us they have not heard from Festiva on any status change are taking reservations for the resort currently. thank you for the great information that you have given. We have traveled here on many cruises and after the first stay..fell in love with this resort and the staff…they become extended family. I have been in contact with several on a Facebook st maarten page that physically came up the road walking of course to see what the resort status was…to make sure Atrium still standing after what we have seen pictures of from several locals. What a blessing that Festiva is taking great care of the employees..very happy happy happy to hear this!

    1. Hi Christine; Thank you so much for your kind words about the resort and our staff, and for your concern. We did inform RCI earlier this week that the Atrium will be closed through the end of the year, and our RCI representative notified us that they are currently not confirming reservations anywhere in the affected areas of the Caribbean. As we have heard from a couple of owners that RCI may still be placing reservations at the Atrium, we are following up with them today to clarify and ensure that that is not the case. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

  5. We have not received any emails from Festiva and want to insure the email on file is correct for Terry Wilds, Atrium owner week 5.

We would like to receive any previous and future emails.

Good luck to you all and know we are keeping all of the employees and residents of St Martin in our prayers.

  6. We have been receiving updates via David . Could you please ensure that our email address is on file. We own weeks 1 thru 6 at the Atrium.
If The Atrium is open in January we were hoping to volunteer to help staff rebuild or where ever needed. Maybe others could get together and take a few days of their holiday to help out. It would be nice to be able to give back after 19 years of wonderful holidays in St. Maartens.

    1. Hi Andy & Georgie; We do have your email address on file and it looks like you received and opened the email we sent on 9/8. Thank you so much for your offer to use your vacation time to help on the island. We are continuing to look at options like this for assistance to our staff and others; however, it’s a bit early to know what that will look like, as currently the only arrivals being permitted to the island are military relief efforts. But we will certainly keep our members informed. Thank you!

  7. HiSara. I am Paul Gallant and have reservations for 11/7to 11/21/2017. We got an email from David Yaz regarding the Atrium/ Festiva canceling reservations throu dec. 2017. But nothing directly from Atrium/festiva. When I called Rci to cancel our reservations they said they have no t been notified by Atrium or festiva of the cancellations yet. I realize that at this time it is crazy with all they happened, so I am not worried they it will get taken care of. But we did not get an email from Atrium/festiva either. Please send again. Thank you. I pray for Saint Maarten and all of you. God bless

  9. I heard the Atrium employees and their family are staying at the atrium.
Is there a fund established to help the employees get back on their feet?
How can we contribute to help them?

    1. Good morning, I just wanted to pass along an update for those wishing to help in the relief efforts going on in the Caribbean. Please click the link below for complete information on how you can donate to the Festiva Charitable Fund Hurricane Relief effort. We thank everyone for their patience during this time, and also for any donations you can offer.

  10. Hello Pat
The updates are very nice to have, but it is difficult to be sure I have the latest info. But Sept 12,14, info included with the donation request, is the info an opening sometime in 2018 the latest? Could the blog be organised in a chronological order?

I know you were caught answering new concerns but it looks like we will be seeking info for at least 6 months as we try to make plans forward.

Thanks for keeping our questions answered

    Dave Yezback

  11. Is there any update on when the Atrium will open? What about those of us who were supposed to come to the Atrium in December? What happens to our weeks?
