Kelly Pitchford said winning in her household is a very good thing. That’s why, when she had the opportunity to replace her husband John on the Festiva Adventure Club board of directors, she jumped at the chance.
“He was on the board for two years when I got the letter inviting me to run for the board. I said to my husband, maybe I’ll run so I can bump you off,” she joked. She ended up winning the seat and said the move is just as beneficial to her as it is to the company.
With her accounting background, she said being on the board of directors piqued her interest.
“I wanted to understand club membership more- the mechanics of it, how does it really work?”
She’s serving her third year now and says she thinks her understanding has really grown.
“I’m seeing how your funds are being used, and I’m seeing how I can help the average member more,” she said. “A lot of the things we discuss on the board take into account the thought processes of what owners want.”
Pitchford, who lives north of Washington, D.C. with her family, bought into the Festiva Adventure Club with her husband about 8 years ago at Ellington at Wachesaw Plantation East. Her husband is an avid golfer and loves the course there, as well as the courses in greater Myrtle Beach.
“I haven’t met a Festiva employee I didn’t like,” she said. “The company has started to do great things with the renting of units, and programs like Getaways. I’d like to see more smaller, simpler locations. That’s a great niche that Festiva fills.”
For now, the family travels to golf-centric locations, but Kelly says she and her husband are enamored by Festiva Sailing Vacations.
“Eventually, we’ll go when we have time. The anticipation is always in the back of my mind. Until then, we love Ellington- we like the golf course, and they offer great discounts to other area courses. The folks at Festiva are great, I feel like I have a concierge every time I go there.”
