Greetings! For this week’s Wanderlust Wednesday post, we’re highlighting a festival that combines chocolate and charity. What’s not to love about that? For those without a sweet tooth, we’ve also got info on a North Carolina Mardi Gras festival. Keep reading for details.
The Carolina Chocolate Festival is the largest chocolate festival in eastern North Carolina. The festival runs Feb. 2, 3, and 4th in Morehead City, North Carolina, just across the sound from Atlantic Beach. Chocolate vendors will be peddling anything and everything chocolate: cakes, tortes, chocolate bars and ice cream, it’s all here. Join in the fun of the hourly pudding contest and chocolate door prizes. Live music, special dinners, a chocolate bake-off competition, chocolate spa, and BBQ pig cook-off round out the festival.
If you’re willing to travel a bit east, the 26th annual Gloucester, North Carolina Mardi Gras will be held Feb. 10 at the Gloucester Community Club. Preparations start the Friday night before with veggie chopping and a music jam. Mardi Gras starts about 11:00 Saturday morning with live music. Gumbo, deep fried turkey, and delicious side dishes are ready by early afternoon, announced by a Fool’s Procession. And of course, costumes are welcomed at this celebration.
