April is Stress Awareness Month | How Does Travel Alleviate Stress?

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? As a travel and resort company, we know a lot about stress, or the prevention of it. Sending you on a vacation and easing your stress is one of our number one priorities. It starts with where we choose the actual location of our resorts- places with lots of family activities, but also natural areas and beautiful scenery that de-stress you organically. We also focus on the ease of booking your accommodations, check in, resort amenities, and so many more details such as the layout and decor of your room.

Couple that with the stress free system of vacation ownership, which means knowing exactly when and where you’re going every year, and it all adds up to a great way to ease tension.

Let’s look into the details of how travel can erase your stress, starting with your brain.

Professor and author Adam Galinksy says that “foreign experiences increase both cognitive flexibility and depth and integrativeness of thought, the ability to make deep connections between disparate forms.” What this means is that seeing new things sparks creativity.

Traveling can also prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, according to a poll done by the U.S. Travel Association, The Global Commission on Aging, and the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies.

According to the findings, women who vacationed every six years or less had a significantly higher risk of developing a heart attack or coronary death compared with women who vacationed at least twice a year.

Men who did not take an annual vacation were shown to have a 20 percent higher risk of death and about a 30 percent greater risk of death from heart disease.

Also, the study showed that travel improves mood, showing that 86 percent of those who travel are satisfied with their outlook on life.  This compared with 75 percent of those who do not travel.

During Stress Awareness Month, take a moment and think about how your Festiva vacation eases your stress. You might be surprised that just thinking about your annual getaway may start easing the stress before your vacation even begins.
