Festiva’s Atlantic Beach Resort is Still Weathering the Storm

Festiva’s Atlantic Beach Resort sustained major damage in September 2018 from Hurricane Florence, a 140 mph max wind speed, category 4 major hurricane that caused 30 deaths and nearly $18 billion in damagers.

That September, Florence crept along after making landfall at only 2-3 miles per hour, dumping rain and wreaking havoc with a storm surge that flooded New Bern to Wilmington.

Atlantic Beach Resort was in the crosshairs. Roofing was destroyed on several buildings, which resulted in extreme water damage to many units as the steady rain fell for hours. Storage buildings and the indoor pool structure were also impacted. The degree of the damage was farther reaching than we initially thought, and the amount of attention we need to give the resort to get it up and running again to our standards is extensive. As of this writing, we still have not received a full report back from our insurance carrier, which has delayed progress on repairs. Thus, it is necessary for the resort to remain closed at least through the end of May 2019.

There has been some progress on repairs to the resort; most notably, the roofs have been repaired, preventing additional water intrusion to the interiors of the buildings. However, the interiors of the buildings still have significant work to be done.

We are not alone in our ongoing efforts toward recovery. There are eight other resort or hotel properties we know of on the island that remain closed and will likely not open until May or later.

We understand this news is disappointing to our Atlantic Beach Resort owners who have upcoming travel plans for this resort. We have reached out to you via email and a mailed letter with what we hope is a favorable alternative for you and your 2019 vacation schedule.

We thank everyone for their patience as we get your Atlantic Beach Resort up and running again. We hope this small hurdle doesn’t discourage our vacationers and we look forward to showcasing this resort and the Atlantic Beach area once repairs are complete.

Kind Regards,

Atlantic Beach Resort Management

    1. Hi Robert,
We have reached out to owners of impacted weeks via both email and mail with details of alternative locations available to you for your 2018 or 2019 reservation, depending on when your week falls. If you have a week that falls between weeks 37-52 (2018 usage) or weeks 1-22 (2019 usage) and you have not heard from us yet, please contact Owner Services at 855-411-9335. Thank you!

  1. Is it just me or does these pictures make you wonder why it is taking so long? I don’t see major damages. This is the 2nd time in the past few years we haven’t been able to use our week. But we did pay the $800 maintenance fee.

    1. Anne, what you can’t see is the 25 inches of rain that fell through ripped open holes in the roof. This amount of water damage is devastating and takes a complete overhaul to rectify. Couple that with the sheer size of this resort, and the damage suffered by the whole town, and you can see why repairs are taking awhile to complete. We thank you for your patience.
